Mining drives effectively all of the movement here, and it follows the same roster pattern as the other resource centres: nominated collection and depot drop-off rather than the worker being present. Services run considerably less frequently than the coastal corridors, so this is a destination where booking early genuinely matters and a missed departure is costly. The route from Mount Isa west into the Northern Territory is also a practical alternative for vehicles heading to Darwin, and depending on timing we will sometimes suggest it. Wet season flooding on the Barkly and Flinders highways affects services between December and March.
