Truck, Bus & Machinery Transport
Low loader work. Height, width and mass determine the permit, and the permit determines the route.
Light trucks, buses, tractors, excavators, bobcats and forklifts. Low loader work, where the permit determines the route and the route determines the price.
Three numbers set everything
Before we can quote, we need height, width and mass. Not estimates: actual figures, ideally from the compliance plate or the manufacturer’s specification.
- Height decides which bridges and overpasses are available, and therefore the route
- Width decides whether pilot vehicles are required and whether travel is restricted to certain hours
- Mass decides the trailer configuration and which roads can legally carry it
Get one wrong and the permit is wrong, which means the movement does not happen. This is the one category where a rough guess genuinely costs you a week.
Permits and Chain of Responsibility
Oversize and overmass movements need permits from the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator or the relevant state authority. We handle the application, the route planning and the pilot vehicles where they are required.
Worth being aware of: under Chain of Responsibility obligations, everyone in the supply chain carries a duty, including the party consigning the load. In practice that means the dimensions and mass you give us are not just a quoting detail, they are a compliance matter. We will ask you to confirm them, and that is why.
Loading requirements
- Attachments removed or lowered: buckets, forks, tynes, blades
- Booms and masts fully retracted and secured
- Articulation locks engaged where fitted
- Fluids checked for leaks, because a leaking machine will not be loaded
- Loose tools and gear removed from cabs and toolboxes
- Tracks and buckets cleaned of soil: mandatory for anything crossing into Western Australia
Some of this is cheaper driven. A registered, roadworthy light truck or bus on a sealed corridor is often better off with a driver in it than on a low loader. We will price both and tell you which we would do. Once it is unregistered, oversize or genuinely slow, carrying wins.
